Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Markets ended lower in a volatile session on Tuesday, with benchmark indices failing to hold intraday gains amid weakness in banking stocks. The Sensex fell 114 points to close at 75,201, while the Nifty slipped 32 points to settle at 23,618.
Financial stocks remained under pressure through the session, with the Nifty Bank index ending 128 points lower at 53,409 after giving up nearly 355 points from the day’s highs. Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank were among the top losers on the benchmark indices.
Broader markets, however, outperformed, with the Midcap index rising 548 points to 61,022, while market breadth remained in favour of advances.
IT stocks extended gains for a second straight session, with the Nifty IT index rallying nearly 6% over the last two days. Infosys, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra emerged among the top Nifty gainers, while Coforge climbed 5% after CLSA called it one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI cycle.
OMC stocks also gained after the fuel price hike announcement, with HPCL rising over 3%. Voltas and Blue Star moved higher on expectations of stronger air-conditioner demand, while Astral ended 7% lower after reporting earnings below Street expectations.
