Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Indian markets have closed trade for the day, and after a tumultuous day, the Nifty index is down 500 points, falling below 24,850. The Nifty Bank index closed with an equally big 1,100-point cut. Hindalco, SBI, ONGC, Adani Ports, Coal India and Jio Fin are amongs the biggest laggards.

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights:  After a day that was no less than a rollercoaster ride, the Indian markets have closed this extraordinary session this Sunday on a deeply red note, with all the major indices falling to lows.

Here, the frontline indices ended with losses of about 2%, while the equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty saw their largest Budget-day decrease in six years. The Nifty fell below 24,900, and 42 of the index's equities finished lower.

There was still pressure on the banking industry and larger markets. The midcap index dropped 1,311 points to 57,121, while the Nifty Bank index dropped 1,193 points to 58,417. With an advance-decline ratio of 1:2, market breadth favoured decreases.

Sectorally, a sell-off continued to put pressure on metal companies, with the Nifty Metal index down 4%. Following budget-related spending statements, defence stocks fell, with some equities dropping as much as 10%.
