Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was serving a life sentence in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, died at Safdarjung Hospital on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.

The Delhi High Court had sentenced Kumar to life imprisonment on December 17, 2018, for his role in a case involving the killing of five Sikhs and the burning of a gurdwara during the 1984 riots. Kumar was lodged in Tihar Jail.

In February 2025, a Delhi court also handed him a life sentence in a separate case involving the killing of two Sikh men during the riots.
