Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia and Iran are in constant contact on a range of international issues, including Iran’s nuclear program. He made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China.

Earlier at the summit, the SCO warned against any reinterpretation of a United Nations resolution backing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, after European powers triggered a mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions on Tehran.

The bloc’s member states stressed the resolution’s “binding nature,” saying that attempts to misinterpret it could undermine the authority of the Security Council, according to the final declaration of their Tianjin summit.
