At least 11 Indians were among more than 300 people injured in an attack at an international airport in Riyadh, the Indian Embassy said on Sunday, a day after the incident killed 12 people.
India strongly condemned the attack and said the repeated strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia were "completely unacceptable and must cease immediately". The embassy said it was in touch with local and hospital authorities to check on the well-being of the injured Indians.
The attack was the latest of several over the past week targeting the airport. Those killed included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one each from Palestine, the US, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan.
In a social media post, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh said it had been following up on the "dastardly attack" on Riyadh airport. "It is learnt that 11 Indians are among those injured in the attack. Embassy has been in touch with local authorities to enquire about their well-being. Our officials have also reached out to the hospital authorities," it said.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "We strongly condemn the repeated attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid Airport over the past few days, including the dastardly attack on October 10, which have led to loss of lives, injuries and damage to property." It added, "We express our condolences to the families of the deceased and wish speedy recovery to the injured persons." Saudi Arabia has blamed Houthi militants for the attack.
The MEA also said, "We stand in solidarity with the people and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty, and hope that peace and normalcy returns to the region at the earliest." In view of the security situation, the Indian Embassy had on Thursday advised Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain alert and vigilant, stay indoors as necessary, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
The attack on Riyadh airport left 12 people dead and more than 300 injured, including 11 Indians, prompting India to condemn the incident, express solidarity with Saudi Arabia and reiterate its advisory for Indian nationals to remain cautious.
