Railway bridge near Samara, Russia, rocked by blast. No casualties reported. Incident linked to recent attacks on Russian infrastructure

A railway bridge near the Russian city of Samara has been rocked by a blast, the RIA news agency reported on Monday. Located on the Volga River in Russia’s southwest, the Samara region is one of the country’s heavy industry hubs, Reuters reported, citing emergency services.

The incident was caused by an explosive device, according to TASS. Russia has in recent months reported a series of attacks on its industrial and logistics infrastructure which it blamed on Ukraine.

So far, no casualties have been reported, but traffic over the bridge has been suspended, the Russian Railways said, describing the incident as “illegal interference”. Five long-distance trains have been delayed near Chapayevsk in the Russian Volga region of Samara after the explosive, according to Russian medoa

“On March 4, 2024, passenger train service was halted as unauthorized persons interfered in the operation of the Zvezda-Chapayevsk railway in the Samara Region,” Kuibyshevskaya railway told TASS. Suburban train service has also been partially suspended. The incident caused no casualties though.
