PTI has demanded that Imran Khan be shifted from Adiala Jail to hospital and allowed weekly meetings. The party says his isolation and restricted access breach basic legal and human rights.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Thursday demanded that former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan be moved to a hospital and that his alleged "solitary confinement" be ended immediately. The party also called for the restoration of his right to meet family members, lawyers and political associates every week.
Khan, 73, has been lodged in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail since August 2023 in multiple cases, including corruption, leaking state secrets and an unlawful marriage, charges he has denied. PTI said he should be given regular telephonic access to his sons, along with books, newspapers and other reading material, and sought his transfer to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad for a full medical examination and treatment by specialist doctors.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party said, "We demand restoration of former PM Imran Khan's right to hold weekly meetings with family members, lawyers and political associates." It said the demands were not special concessions, but fundamental legal and human rights that should be guaranteed without further delay.
The party said Khan should be allowed to maintain regular telephonic contact with his sons and have access to reading material in jail. It said the last time the government allowed Khan to meet one of his sisters in jail was on December 5, 2025. After that meeting, Khan's sister, Naureen Khan Niazi, told the media that the political leader had called Army chief Asim Munir a "mentally unstable man", after which, she said, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif imposed a ban on his meetings.
Shaukat Basra, a senior PTI leader, told PTI that the party was planning mass mobilisation against what he described as the inhuman treatment of Khan in jail. "This regime shows no regard for human rights and the rights of a prisoner. The rulers should remember that they will not remain in power forever and one day they will be held accountable by the people of Pakistan," he said, while demanding justice for Khan. He also called for an end to Khan's solitary confinement and his urgent transfer to Shifa Hospital for proper medical care.
Khan has an eye problem and was diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion in late January. Earlier this month, he was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for eye treatment. PTI's demands on Thursday centred on restoring his access to family and legal meetings, ending his isolation in jail and shifting him to hospital for specialist care.
