It all took four seconds and one sentence to leave Pakistan red-faced on the world stage. The spicy moment happened when the United Nations was discussing the recent brazen attack by Israel in Qatar targeting the political leadership of Hamas.
The incident happened when Hillel Neuer, a human rights lawyer and executive director of UN Watch, was calling out Qatar for "harbouring terrorists", and accused the Gulf nation of being a state sponsor of terror.
Today at the U.N. I asked Qatar: “If you don’t want targeted bombings on terrorists in your capital, why do you harbor terrorists in your capital? Why is your Al Jazeera serving as Hamas' non-stop propaganda arm? Why do you act as mediator by day, and a terror sponsor by night?” https://t.co/xi2EZlC5B7 pic.twitter.com/tTghv5JK4U
— Hillel Neuer (@HillelNeuer) September 10, 2025Neuer also lashed out at the UN chief for condemning Israel. He reminded that when the US killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, the then UN chief had said that "justice has been done".
However, the Pakistani delegate interrupted him mid-speech, seemingly incensed over Neuer mentioning bin Laden and the country.
The delegate asked the UNHRC chairperson to ensure that no speaker violated the principles of the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of sovereign member states. "We reject casting unfounded accusations and allegations," Pakistan said.
However, the UNHRC chair soon restored the mic to Neuer and reminded him that he had four seconds to complete his speech. The noted lawyer made those four seconds count.
"Mr President, Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror," Neuer thundered as he ended his speech, leaving the Pakistani delegate embarrassed.
