Shibu Soren, Rajya Sabha MP and former Jharkhand CM, died on Monday. Founding patron of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) passed away at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after being prolonged illness. From PM Modi to Rajnath Singh, politicians across the country are expressing deep condolences over Soren’s demise.
In a post on X, PM Modi highligted Soren’s work towards empowerment of the tribal community. He wrote on X, “Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti."

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered Shibu Soren’s struggle and efforts towards weaker sections of the society. He posted on X and stated, “The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and one of the country’s senior-most leaders, Shri Shibu Soren ji, was counted among the towering leaders of Jharkhand who struggled throughout their lives for the rights and empowerment of the weaker sections of society, especially the tribal community. He always remained connected to the land and the people. I had a long acquaintance with him. His passing has caused me great sorrow. My condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti!"

Shibu Soren was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times and served as a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expressed deep condolences to Shibu Soren’s family and friends. His post on X reads, “I am saddened by the passing of Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister, former Union Minister, and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren ji. He dedicated his life to the struggle for a separate Jharkhand state and the rights of its people over water, forest, and land, as well as the preservation of tribal culture. I spoke with his son and Jharkhand’s Chief Minister @HemantSorenJMM ji, expressing my deep condolences to his family and supporters. In this hour of grief, may God grant them strength."

BRS president KT Rama Rao posted on X and shared how Shibu Soren expressed solidarity with BRS President KCR Garu during Telangana movement. An excerpt from his post reads, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Sri Shibu Soren ji, a towering figure in Indian politics and a tireless crusader for tribal rights and regional self-determination. His demise is not just a personal loss—it marks the end of an era shaped by unwavering commitment to justice, identity, and dignity."
“During the tumultuous days of the Telangana movement, Shibu ji stood by us with rare conviction. His solidarity with BRS President KCR garu, and moral encouragement to the Telangana agitation gave us strength at critical junctures. He understood the soul of Telangana, because he had walked a similar path for Jharkhand," he added.

Union Minister Shandilya Giriraj Singh also expressed sorrow and posted on X. “Shibu Soren left his mark not only as a political leader but also as a protector and fighter for tribal society. His life has been a symbol of tribal identity, the aspiration for state-building, and the struggle for social justice," an excerpt from his post read.

Soren passed away at 8:56 am today. As per the official statement, he was suffering from a kidney ailment, and had suffered a stroke, a month and a half back. He was on the life support system for the last one month.
RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav expressed his sorrow over JMM supremo’s demise and said “Shibu Soren has passed away. He was a great leader of the Dalits and tribals, and I had a good relationship with him. I am saddened. May God grant peace to his soul… This is a great loss for politics."
