A day after reports suggested that US President Donald Trump blocked an Israeli plan to eliminate Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that such an action would swiftly bring the conflict to a close and would make the “Middle East great again."
“It’s not going to escalate the conflict, it’s going to end the conflict," Netanyahu told ABC News when questioned about Trump’s reported refusal, which was reportedly based on fears of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
Netanyahu, in a strong statement, accused Iran of fuelling decades of instability in the region. “We’ve had half a century of conflict spread by this regime that terrorises everyone in the Middle East, bombed the Aramco oil fields in Saudi Arabia, is spreading terrorism and subversion and sabotage everywhere," he said.
Netanyahu added, “The forever war is what Iran wants," underscoring his view that Tehran’s actions are at the root of ongoing unrest across West Asia.
