Suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Friday targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of legalising the alleged land grab by ‘so-called VVIPs’ in the prohibited Shivalik belt and asking why he was facilitating the liquor and land mafia.
In a letter to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Navjot Kaur alleged “the biggest land scandal being run by the present government under CM Bhagwant Mann". She said he had approved the land holdings of land sharks who, for years, have been grabbing huge bulks of land at minimum rates under the Shivalik Belt.
“All the big wigs have been grabbing land holdings from 1 acre to 10,000 acres of protected forest land around Shivalik hills and the CM is trying to regularise it. It is pertinent to mention here that when Mr Navjot Sidhu was Local Bodies Minister, he had refused to sign the file. On the other hand, he ordered an enquiry and we have records prepared by Justice Kuldeep Singh and Mr Chander Shekhar Retd. IPS Officer. His not signing the file resulted in punishment by taking away his department," he said.
She said if the Punjab government acquired the land, it could have a promised investment of around Rs 80,000 crore and house several multinational industries to generate a big revenue for the state.
CM , Bhagwant Mann ji ; I think I need some security now or else you will be responsible. And kindly answer why there is no response from your side on my issues raised before the Honourable Governor Punjab??? Why are you facilitating liquor and mining mafia??? pic.twitter.com/1EROh3i181— Dr Navjot Sidhu (@NavjotSidh42212) December 12, 2025
“This is the most painful period in the history of Punjab where everyone is planning to leave the land of Great Gurus and migrate because of fear of threats to life and everyday murders where weapons are being used as toys. Police at lower ranks are just pocketing money and justice has turned blind," she alleged, while calling for a railway station in Delhi named after Guru Teg Bahadur.
This came after Bhagwant Mann criticised Navjot Kaur’s controversial ‘Rs 500 crore for CM’s chair’ remark, describing the comment as a revelation of the opposition’s questionable motives.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s Tiff With Congress
Navjot Kaur created a stir after she claimed that Rs 500 crore could secure a Chief Ministerial position in Punjab, although she later said that her statement was misinterpreted after backlash. Subsequently, the Punjab Congress suspended her from the party’s primary membership on Monday evening.
Reacting sharply, she accused state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring of being “insensitive and irresponsible, morally dishonest and corrupt," adding, “I refuse to accept him as a President." Former CM Captain Amarinder Singh also criticised her remarks, labelling her and her husband, former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, as “unstable."
Hitting back, Navjot Kaur accused Capt Amarinder Singh of pressuring Navjot Singh Sidhu to close files related to the land holdings around the Shivalik range. She also alleged that he deliberately did not clear Navjot Singh’s files that were important for Punjab’s growth.
Captain Amarinder Singh , I just wanted to add ; why didn’t you clear Navjot Sidhu’s files which were so important for Punjab’s growth???? Mining Policy, Liquor policy, Travel and Medical tourism, Amritsar Gondola project, Garbage Disposal Project, Trans piracy in Local Bodies…— Dr Navjot Sidhu (@NavjotSidh42212) December 12, 2025
She also called the legal notice served on her by Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa “devoid of merit and legally unsustainable" and asked Randhawa to withdraw his notice or face a countersuit for harassment, false claims, and damages.
