Chandigarh: Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Saturday announced that she has quit the party, launching a sharp attack on Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, whom she accused of “damaging" the organisation and termed “the most horrific, incapable, corrupt president ever".
Kaur’s announcement comes a month after she was suspended from the Congress’ primary membership following a political controversy triggered by her remark that “a suitcase of Rs 500 crore" is required to become chief minister.
RAJA WARRING, The most horrific, incapable, corrupt president ever. You saved yourself from jail by co partening with CM to destroy Congress. You have sold the party for petty gains with a understanding with AAP. You had a suspension letter ready for me but what about nearly 12…— Dr Navjot Sidhu (@NavjotSidh42212) January 31, 2026
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the wife of former Punjab Congress chief and ex-cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, alleged that Warring had compromised the party for personal gains by entering into an understanding with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
In a strongly worded post on X, Kaur accused Warring of targeting her while protecting other leaders. She claimed he had a suspension letter ready for her but failed to act against several senior leaders whom she accused of working against Navjot Singh Sidhu.
“You saved yourself from jail by co-partnering with the Chief Minister to destroy Congress. You sold the party for petty gains with an understanding with AAP," she alleged.
Kaur further claimed that leaders who, according to her, collaborated with Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia to harm Navjot Singh Sidhu were instead rewarded with key positions in the party.
“I have enough proof to destroy you, but I am not interested. I myself have quit Congress where no promising leader is heard," she said, also alleging that efforts were made to ensure her defeat in elections by planting candidates in her constituency.
She also questioned the party leadership’s inaction against senior leaders such as Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Dharamvira Gandhi, alleging that they had openly challenged Warring.
Kaur had triggered a political storm last month when she claimed that “one who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore becomes the chief minister". Speaking to reporters on December 6, she had said her husband would return to active politics if the Congress projected him as the party’s chief ministerial face in Punjab.
She had also said that while they did not have money to offer any party, they had the vision to transform Punjab into a “golden state".
Following her suspension, Kaur had earlier maintained that she and her husband would continue to stand with the Congress.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu was elected as an MLA from Amritsar East in 2012 on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket and served as chief parliamentary secretary before later joining the Congress.
