Mohan Bhagwat meets British Sikh community at historic London gurdwara

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had a "meaningful interaction" with members of the British Sikh community during his visit to a historic gurdwara in London, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney said on Sunday. Bhagwat is in the UK on the final leg of his overseas outreach tour, which has also covered the US and Canada.

During his UK visit, Bhagwat also visited London’s Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden during Janmashtami celebrations. Later on Sunday, he is scheduled to address the biggest public event of his UK tour, titled 'Celebration of Oneness', at a community centre in London.

Earlier this week, Bhagwat visited the Khalsa Jatha British Isles Gurdwara Sahib in London, which dates back to 1908 and is among the oldest gurdwaras outside India. "Shri Mohan Bhagwat offered a Rumala Sahib, partook of Kada Prasad, and had a meaningful interaction with the gurdwara management," Sahney said in a statement.

Sahney added that, as per Sikh traditions, any devotee is welcome in Guru Darbar who comes in "all humility to offer prayers and seek blessings of Guru".

Sunil Ambekar, Member of the RSS Central Executive Team, told reporters that the Sunday event had been initiated by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh UK, a Hindu social and cultural organisation established in Britain in 1966, with support from Integral UK. He said more than 310 community organisations and associations from across the UK are expected to take part in the celebration.

Bhagwat’s international tour, held to mark the centenary year of the RSS, is expected to conclude on Monday with his return to India, wrapping up visits that included engagements with the Sikh community, the temple visit in London and the 'Celebration of Oneness' event.
