Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and reviewed progress in bilateral ties, with the two leaders reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the Strategic Partnership between India and the Kyrgyz Republic.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, the two leaders also agreed to further enhance economic and commercial cooperation, taking into account the complementarities between the two economies, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Later, Modi said he had a "very fruitful" meeting with Zhaparov. In a post on social media, he said they discussed how to add momentum to the Strategic Partnership through "Greater cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, IT, minerals, agriculture, digital technologies and infrastructure. Expanding defence and security linkages. Strong people-to-people relations through areas such as sports, tourism and more," he said.
Modi also conveyed Independence Day greetings to Zhaparov and the people of the Kyrgyz Republic. He congratulated him on the country’s successful SCO Chairmanship. "Prime Minister Modi also congratulated President Zhaparov on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic, noting that it gave a special meaning to the opening of the SCO Summit the same day," the MEA said.
The prime minister also highlighted India’s strong participation in the SCO meetings held under the Chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic. According to the MEA, he said this reflected the mutual respect, trust and support that characterise the close and longstanding ties between the two countries. The meeting focused on reviewing bilateral progress, expanding cooperation across key sectors and reaffirming support for stronger India-Kyrgyz Republic relations.
