The 27-year-old multimedia artist has largely stayed out of the spotlight but joined Mamdani on stage after his Democratic primary win.

Zohran Mamdani might not be the only left-wing activist with sights set on the New York mayor’s office. Accompanying him to Gracie Hall will be his 27-year-old multimedia artist Rama Duwaji. Duwaji, whose work contains pro-Palestinian themes, will be standing by his side if Mamdani is elected mayor come November.
Duwaji is a Syrian-American illustrator and visual artists and appeared along with her husband after he clinched the Democratic primary against Democrat veteran and former governor Andrew Cuomo.
She has remained out of the public eye while her husband is on everyone’s social media feeds globally as Mamdani’s campaign made headlines globally. He also became viral over a question on Israel and for denying answering if he would visit the country if he won the elections.
“I must thank my incredible wife. Rama, thank you," he said, kissing her hand, onstage, while delivering his victory speech Tuesday night.
In her art career, Duwaji has worked with The New Yorker, The Washington Post, the BBC, Apple, Spotify, VICE and the Tate Modern museum in London, among others, according to one bio page. “Using drawn portraiture and movement, Rama examines the nuances of sisterhood and communal experiences," it says.
Duwaji also enjoys taking a break from her tech-based art to create her own ceramics, particularly illustrated plates in blue and white, an Associated Press report said.
