A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region on Saturday, the US Geological Survey confirmed.

The quake hit in the same region that experienced a massive 8.8 tremor in July, which had triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation for any potential tsunami threat. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged so far.

Russia’s Kamchatka region was jolted by a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake in July, causing intense tremors across eastern Russia and triggering tsunami alerts for Japan, the United States, and several Pacific island nations.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake ranked as the strongest in the world in the past 14 years and the sixth most powerful earthquake ever recorded.

It was also the most severe since the 9.1-magnitude quake that devastated Japan in 2011, unleashing a destructive tsunami and widespread damage.

The Kamchatka Peninsula has a history of seismic activity. In 1952, during the Soviet era, the region was hit by a massive 9.0-magnitude quake, one of the largest in recorded history.

Following July’s quake, US authorities placed Hawaii, Alaska, California, and other states along the west coast under tsunami threat.

Hawaii and Alaska were under direct tsunami warnings, with emergency measures activated and impact expected in coastal areas.

Authorities across the Pacific were closely monitoring the situation, urging residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert.
