A taxi driver who witnessed the aftermath of a mass stabbing on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train bound for Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire says the attacker begged police to kill him as he was tasered and arrested.
Viorel Turturica, who was waiting for a passenger at Huntingdon station on Saturday night, told The Sun he saw people running in panic moments before the suspect appeared. “Ten seconds later, a man dressed in black holding a huge kitchen knife ran past my car,” he said. “The police arrived seconds later, and I could hear him shouting, ‘Kill me, kill me, kill me!’ before they tasered him.”
The dramatic incident unfolded on a high-speed train traveling from Doncaster to King’s Cross, leaving 11 people wounded, including a conductor now fighting for his life after trying to protect passengers. Witnesses said the crew member’s actions helped prevent further bloodshed.
Police confirmed on Sunday that the 32-year-old British man was acting alone, and that a second man initially detained had been released without charge. Investigators have found no indication that the attack was linked to terrorism.
“Our investigation is progressing quickly, and we are confident that no other individuals were involved,” Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said in a statement.
Dramatic video footage shared with The Sun shows armed officers and a police dog pinning the suspect to the platform at Huntingdon station. “Get him in a hold!” one officer shouts as the buzz of a Taser is heard.
Police and Staff Hailed for Quick Action
Authorities praised the train’s driver, Iraq War veteran Andrew Johnson, who diverted the train to a slower line so it could stop within minutes, allowing police to board. “Detectives have reviewed CCTV from the train, and it is clear that the crew member’s actions were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved many lives,” said British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless.
The suspect, described as a 32-year-old Black British national, remains in custody as detectives continue to search for a motive behind the terrifying attack.
