Separately, the company's board approved a 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) expansion project and an upgrade of existing plant facilities at Sambalpur, Odisha, by JSW JFE Steel Ltd (JJSL), a 50:50 joint venture between JSW Steel and Japan's JFE Steel Corporation.

JJSL operates a 4.5 MTPA integrated steel plant at Sambalpur and two downstream facilities in Chandigarh and Kolkata. The integrated plant at Sambalpur is operating at near-full capacity.

The equity requirement for the expansion project is estimated at ₹7,500 crore, to be contributed equally by JSW Steel and JFE Steel, with each investing ₹3,750 crore. Project implementation is expected to commence in April 2027, subject to the receipt of the required statutory and environmental approvals, and is targeted for completion over approximately 3.5 years.

The project is expected to strengthen JJSL's market position, improve economies of scale, expand value-added product offerings and enhance export opportunities. The board also approved the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel in the United Arab Emirates.
