Jitin Prasada pitches innovation-led growth at G20 Ministerial

Union Minister Jitin Prasada has said India remains committed to fostering an ecosystem where innovation can drive inclusive growth and shared prosperity. He made the remarks while taking part in the G20 Innovation Ministerial, where he also outlined India’s view on policy frameworks that encourage innovation and support technological advancement.

Prasada, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, said India sees a strong link between innovation, opportunity and workforce development. He also held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the ministerial to discuss cooperation in technology, innovation, education and research with representatives from the European Union, France, the African Union and Germany.

Participating in the G20 Innovation Ministerial in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Tuesday, Prasada joined sessions on Pro-Innovation Policy Frameworks, Technology for Opportunity and Prosperity, and Skilled Technical Workforce Development. “I shared India’s perspective on the importance of enabling policy frameworks that encourage innovation, support technological advancement and create an environment where new ideas can translate into opportunities through skilled workforce development,” the minister said.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Prasada met Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission; Anne Le Henanff, Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs of France; Gaspard Banyankimbona, African Union Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation; and German Parliamentary State Secretaries Thomas Jarzombek and Silke Launert. Speaking about his meeting with Virkkunen, Prasada said, “As technology continues to reshape economies and societies, India and the EU have an important opportunity to work together in advancing innovation and building trusted digital ecosystems.”

Prasada said he exchanged views with the French minister on advancing cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies. “India and France share a strong commitment to technology-driven innovation and collaboration,” he said. On his meeting with the African Union delegation, he said discussions covered strengthening cooperation in technology, innovation, education and skills, adding, “India remains committed to deepening its partnership with Africa and creating opportunities for shared growth.” He also said his talks with the German officials focused on opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between India and Germany in technology, innovation and research. Overall, the minister’s meetings and participation at the G20 forum centred on India’s push for innovation-led growth, skilled workforce development and stronger international technology partnerships.
