Jaishankar met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and said India and Russia on Thursday vowed to expand their bilateral trade in a "balanced and sustainable manner"

The external affairs minister landed in Moscow on Tuesday ahead of Putin's visit to India.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meeting assumes significance as US President Donald Trump has been repeatedly criticising India over the sale and purchase of Russian oil and imposed 50% tariffs.
The external affairs minister landed in Moscow on Tuesday ahead of Putin’s visit to India. Earlier this month, Doval also met Putin in Moscow and announced that the Russian President would visit India this year.
Earlier today, Jaishankar met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and said India and Russia on Thursday vowed to expand their bilateral trade in a “balanced and sustainable manner". He underlined the need to “swiftly" address non-tariff barriers and regulatory impediments.
“We believe that relations between India and Russia have been among the steadiest of the major relationships in the world after the Second World War," Jaishankar said at a joint media briefing with Lavrov after their wide-ranging talks.
“Geo-political convergence, leadership contacts and popular sentiment remain its key drivers," he said.
