As Russian President Vladimir Putin offered direct talks with Ukraine on May 15, Donald Trump lauded his decision and said that the United States wants to focus on “rebuilding and trade" with both the warring nations.
Trump called it a “great day" for both Russia and Ukraine and said that the end of the three-year-long war will make the world “much better", saving thousands of lives.
“A potentially great day for Russia and Ukraine! Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved as this never ending “bloodbath" hopefully comes to an end. It will be a whole new, and much better, WORLD. I will continue to work with both sides to make sure that it happens. The USA wants to focus, instead, on Rebuilding and Trade. A BIG week upcoming!" the US President posted on X.
Putin proposed holding direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15, hours after the European leaders called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire to start on Monday.
The leaders of Ukraine, Britain, France, Germany, and Poland, who met in Kyiv on Saturday, warned Russia that they would impose new sanctions and give more military help to Ukraine if Russia did not accept their proposal.
