Israeli Diplomat’s Son Who Ran Over Cop Beaten inside Florida Prison over Sausage Debate

Avraham Gil, the son of Israeli diplomat Eli Gil, who is the consul for administration at the Israeli Consulate in Miami, was beaten up when he went to a Florida jail to update his mugshot. 19-year-old Avraham has been placed under house arrest for running over a cop with his motorcycle.

Blake Elvis Ermus, 32, beat up Avraham inside the jail’s holding cell over a conversation about sausages. Avraham ran over the cop, a Sunny Isles police lieutenant, last month.

Was having a conversation with the defendant (Ermus) about the ingredients of the sausages. At some point, the defendant approached the victim and punched him multiple times,” an incident report obtained by the local news outlet WPLG said.

Ermus was held in jail for a misdemeanour domestic battery charge and after the attack on Avraham he was charged with felony battery by a detainee.

Gil’s new mugshot shows him more sober, contained. His previous mugshot captured him crying and distraught, with unkempt hair.

Prosecutors requested that the diplomat’s son be placed on house arrest as his driving was dangerous to the public. Avraham faces aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence charges and both of them are felonies, which means these are crimes that are serious enough to be punishable by imprisonment.

January’s incident was not the first time the diplomat’s son had problems with law enforcement officials. He has had multiple run-ins with cops as he drove around the Miami area on his motorbike.

“Just had a motorcycle come and run me over. I’ve got one subject in custody,” the injured police officer said over his radio in audio obtained by Miami-based local news outlet Local10 said.

Despite the incapacitating injury, the cop grabbed Gil off his bike and brought him to the ground.

Gil told officers that he was “weaving through the vehicles” because he “hates waiting behind traffic”, according to a report by the Miami New Times.

Gils’ lawyer unsuccessfully tried to get the charges dropped by claiming that because he was a diplomat’s son he has consular immunity. He was considered ineligible to receive the immunities that diplomats and their families in the US are granted.

“The Department is aware of this incident. We can confirm that, as the dependent of an Israeli consular officer, the concerned individual is not entitled to civil or criminal immunity,” the US State Department said in a statement obtained, according to NBC Miami. He will appear once again in court on March 12.
