Is the market open on Budget Day 2026?

The Union Budget 2026 for the fiscal year 2026-27, or FY27, will be presented on Sunday, February 1. Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, will present the budget at 11 AM IST for a record 9th time.

On this crucial day, many may have questions regarding whether another pillar of the Indian economy, the stock markets, will be open on the day.

Yes, the Indian markets will be open on Sunday. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Stock Exchange will conduct trading as per the regular standard timings. The pre-open session will start at 09:00 AM and conclude at 09:15 AM. Following that, the regular session will start on both BSE and NSE, before closing for the day at 03:30 PM.

In addition to that, due to the Union Budget presentation, the commodity markets will also continue to be open for trading. In accordance with special Budget Day arrangements, trading will take place on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX).

The most important trading window for users is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., when commodity contracts can be traded much like on a typical market day.

This special session will be conducted to facilitate investors' reaction to developments from the parliament in real time.
