Iran-Israel War News Today Live Updates: Loud explosions were heard in Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Saturday morning, as Israel announced it launched preemptive strikes, with the Middle East plunging into a renewed military conflict.

“The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said.

Moreover, sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv as Israel warned of the “possibility of missiles”.

“In the last few minutes, sirens were sounded all throughout Israel, with an advance instruction alert directly to cellular devices to stay within proximity to protected spaces. This is a proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the State of Israel. The IDF emphasizes that the public is requested to stay in proximity to protected spaces,” the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement.

A state of emergency has been declared in Israel.

ATTACKS NEAR SENSITIVE AREAS

According to the Associated Press, citing onlookers, explosions were heard in Tehran, with the strikes reported near offices linked to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, officials are yet to disclose details on casualties or injuries in the strikes.

DIMMIING HOPE FOR NEGOTIATIONS

The explosions come as the United States and Tehran were engaged negotiations this month, aimed at resolving the long-running dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Israel had insisted that any agreement must include dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and limiting missile capabilities.

Iran, on the other hand, had asserted it is open to nuclear discussions in exchange for sanctions relief but rejected linking talks to its missile programme.
