During an emergency session of the UN Security Council on June 22, the United States firmly defended its military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, portraying the operation as a necessary and overdue step to safeguard global stability, protect its regional allies, and ensure the safety of American citizens. Washington emphasised that the action was taken in the interest of international security and framed it as a response to mounting threats posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

In her speech at the UNSC meeting, acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea said: “US military strikes targeted nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan with the aim of dismantling Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and stopping the nuclear threat posed by the world’s foremost state sponsor of terror."

She added that the time finally came for the “United States, in the defence of its ally and in the defense of our own citizens and interest, to act decisively."

She further urged the UN that “Iranian regime cannot have a nuclear weapon".

On ‘Death to America’ Slogan

While speaking at the UNSC, the US further noted that for four decades, the Iranian government has repeatedly chanted slogans like “Death to America" and “Death to Israel," positioning itself as a persistent threat to regional peace, U.S. interests, and global security.

Defending its strike, the US ambassador mentioned that Iran has launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel and used terrorist proxies to carry out attacks, fuelling instability across the region.

“For decades, Iran has been responsible for misery and countless deaths across the Middle East. Iran’s government and its proxies have also killed numerous Americans, including American service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. In recent weeks, Iranian officials have intensified their hostile bluster and rhetoric. Iran has long obfuscated its nuclear weapons program and stonewalled good-faith efforts in recent negotiations," Shea told the UN.
