A young Indian visitor in Argentina faced racist remarks on social media, but the prompt support shown by locals quickly turned the situation around. The incident highlights how social media platforms can sometimes amplify negativity, yet also bring people together in unexpected ways.
The episode began when the Indian traveller, who had recently arrived in Argentina to attend an event, posted a friendly message on X expressing his excitement to connect with people ahead of EFDevcon. “Argentina, I’m here. Friends, let’s meet before EFDevcon," he wrote.
While some users responded with hateful and racist comments, several Argentinians immediately came forward to welcome him and condemn the abuse. Their positive reactions helped drown out the negativity and reassured the visitor.
“An Indian man reached Argentina for a conference and simply greeted people online, only to face racist trolling. Thankfully, real Argentinians stepped up. They didn’t let racism and hate ruin this person’s experience," an X user named Meru wrote while appreciating the locals who came in support of the Indian man.

The incident has sparked conversation online about social media culture — how a simple greeting can draw polarising reactions, and how community solidarity can counteract hate just as swiftly.
In this situation, genuine Argentines stepped forward, confronted the racism, and helped keep the Indian visitor’s spirits up.
One user commented, “Thiru, welcome to Argentina and thank you for coming! Argentina is a great place to be, live and build. Hope you love it."
Another user wrote, “Welcome Thiru! We are happy to have you in our city and our country."
“Bro, If you want to meet I’m here! Feel free to use our offices in Retiro, We have a floor that we use for conferences and for guests to showcase," commented another user.
