As former journalist Lauren Sánchez prepares to tie the knot with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, details of their lavish three-day wedding celebration from June 26 to 28 are being closely guarded, largely to avoid disruptions from local protestors.

Despite assurances from the couple’s event planners that the festivities are being organized with respect for Venice and its residents, many activists remain vocal in their opposition. They argue that the high-profile wedding — with a guest list of around 200 VIPs — is unwelcome in a city already burdened by over 30 million tourists annually.

Nevertheless, with the full backing of Venice’s mayor, the multimillion-dollar celebration is moving forward as planned.

Bill Gates, Orlando Bloom, and Queen Rania of Jordan were among the latest high-profile arrivals in Venice for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding, joining an already star-studded guest list that includes Oprah Winfrey, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Khloé Kardashian.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who arrived a day earlier, have been spotted enjoying sightseeing and shopping around Venice ahead of the celebrations.
