In a bizarre incident, a Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) candidate allegedly tore and swallowed the AB form of his rival nominee from the party for the upcoming Pune civic polls.

AB forms are necessary for filing a nomination as the official candidate of a party. The incident took place in the Dhankawadi Sahakarnagar Ward Office on Wednesday (December 31), where AB forms from the Shiv Sena were issued to two candidates in the ward number 34 in Pune city.

After learning about the duplicate forms, a heated argument ensued between Uddhav Kamble and Machhindra Dhawale. During the argument, Kamble allegedly snatched Dhawale’s AB forms, tore them and swallowed the pieces, a police officer told news agency PTI.

A case has been registered against Kamble at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station for obstructing a public servant while he was performing official duties during the election process. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

The police said that the complaint from the Election Commission was that Kamble had taken Davale’s form during scrutiny, tore it up and put it in his mouth and rushed towards the washroom, according to NDTV. However, Kamble denied eating the form, claiming that he was deeply upset that the Election Commission would lie to an official candidate from a national party like the Shiv Sena.

Kamble said he had heard reports that there was a second candidate from the party, but when he tried to verify it with senior party officials and the Election Commission, he was assured that no other party worker had been given the form.

“In the middle of the chaos, I don’t know where the pieces went. But if they’re claiming I ate it, I’m here at the police station to challenge that… I should undergo a medical examination. If the form is found in my stomach, then they can proceed with legal action. But if it’s not, they should withdraw the false complaint," he said.

Pune is among 29 cities and towns where elections for municipal corporations will be held on January 15.
