Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping were caught on a hot mic talking about organ transplants and human longevity as they walked together at a military parade in Beijing.

The unscripted moment came as the two leaders, accompanied by North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, led a delegation of more than two dozen foreign dignitaries to view a parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

Putin-Xi Jinping’s Chat On ‘Immortality’

Vladimir Putin’s translator could be heard saying in Chinese, “Biotechnology is continuously developing … human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become and (you can) even achieve immortality."

Xi Jinping, who was off camera, responded, “Some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old."

Kim Jong Un, walking close behind, smiled in their direction, though it was unclear if the remarks were being translated for him. Vladimir Putin himself was not clearly audible in Russian on the CCTV clip.

The remarks lasted only seconds before CCTV cut to a wide shot of Tiananmen Square, with the audio fading. Moments later, the three leaders reappeared on screen heading toward the viewing platform.

Neither the Russian government nor China’s foreign ministry has commented on the hot-mic moment.

China’s Victory Day Parade

China’s parade featured more than 50,000 spectators and showcased advanced Chinese weaponry, including hypersonic missiles and naval drones. Addressing the crowd, Xi Jinping warned that the world faced a choice between “peace or war."

Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Sunday for the summit. During the visit, the Russian leader and Xi Jinping signed more than 20 agreements ranging from energy cooperation to artificial intelligence and pledged to build a major new gas pipeline.
