Russian President Vladimir Putin rushed to leave a plenary session of the Strong Ideas for a New Time forum to promote new projects, in a hurry, as he was scheduled to speak with US President Donald Trump on Thursday.
Putin was attending the forum held by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives. The talks between the two leaders marked their sixth known discussion since Trump resumed office. The talks are also happening against the US’s unsuccessful attempts to mediate a Ukraine ceasefire.
The Russian President apologised to the host and the crowd and announced that he is going to have a phone call with Trump and requested the audience, “Please, don’t be angry. I understand that we could talk more, but it’s so awkward to make [Trump] wait; he could get offended."
According to RT News, the two leaders discussed Middle East tensions “in great detail". The Russian leader emphasised that all issues need to be solved by diplomatic means. The presidents also agreed to stay in close contact.
RT News further posted on X, “Putin wished Trump SUCCESS in implementing his BBB and congratulated him on the upcoming Independence Day. The Russian leader noted that their countries are connected by deeper historical roots."
The Kremlin also announced that Putin has informed Trump that Moscow will not abandon its objectives in Ukraine, while also committing to continue negotiations on the conflict.
“Our president stated that Russia will achieve the goals it has set, which address the root causes of the current situation," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov conveyed to reporters. “Russia will not forgo these objectives."
Noting that the call lasted almost an hour, Ushakov added, “He also mentioned the Russian side’s readiness to continue the negotiation process."
Putin stressed the need for diplomatic solutions to conflicts involving Iran and other Middle Eastern issues during his discussion with Trump.
“From the Russian side, the significance of resolving all disputed issues, disagreements, and conflicts exclusively through political and diplomatic means was stressed," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov relayed to reporters after the call.
