Massive explosion took place about two hours after a construction crew damaged an underground gas line, officials said.

At least six people were injured in a massive gas explosion on Thursday in Hayward, California. The blast sparked a major fire, demolishing at least one house, shattering windows, and shaking the nearby area. According to fire officials, injured individuals were hospitalised.
The incident took place about two hours after a construction crew damaged an underground gas line. As per Pacific Gas & Electric Co., at around 7:35 a.m., a construction crew, unaffiliated with the utility, had damaged an underground gas line. Utility workers arrived to isolate the damaged line, but gas was leaking from various locations.
Dramatic video footage captured the moment a home in the Hayward area exploded under a clear blue sky, sending jagged wood and debris into the air as smoke billowed. Check the video here.
As per a report by AP, Alameda County Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Nishimoto stated he was uncertain if the injured were workers or residents. However, he confirmed three people were immediately hospitalised for their injuries, while three others were treated for minor injuries.
The explosion caused severe damage to three structures across two lots, Nishimoto reported. Some of the 75 firefighters who responded had to momentarily retreat after experiencing electric shocks from fallen power lines.
The neighbourhood, characterised by single-level homes with neat lawns and some businesses near two freeways, had been undergoing construction for wider sidewalks and bike lanes.
The blast occurred in the unincorporated community of Ashland, near Hayward, a city with approximately 160,000 residents located 15 miles (24 km) south of Oakland.
The Transportation Safety Board announced it was dispatching a team to investigate the incident.
