At least two people were killed and three others were injured in a car ramming and mass stabbing incident in England on Thursday. The incident happened during Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in the Jewish calendar.

The officials reached the spot immediately on receiving the information about the violence in the northwestern city. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that the suspected attacker was shot by armed officers.

The police later said the man was “believed to be deceased," though formal confirmation was delayed as bomb experts examined suspicious items found on him.

A video of the incident is also being widely circulated online. It shows the police aiming at the accused crouching outside the building. The suspect can then be seen falling to the ground.

The clip also shows one of the officers shouting: “Everybody else, get back. If you’re not involved, move back, get away… he has a bomb, go away."

According to a report by the Telegraph, the officials classified the case as a terror attack.

“A man believed to be the offender was shot by GMP (Greater Manchester Police) Firearms Officers and is also believed to be deceased," the police said on X.

Local residents described the shock of the moment. Chava Lewin, who lives beside the synagogue, recalled: “I heard a bang and thought it might be a firework until my husband ran inside our house and said there had been a ‘terrorist attack.'"

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also reacted to the incident and took to X and expressed shock over the incident.

“This morning’s attack is absolutely shocking. I’m on my way back to London to chair an emergency meeting, and additional police assets are being deployed to synagogues across the country. We will do everything we can to keep our Jewish community safe."

In a second video statement, the UK PM called it a terrorist attack and said," This was a vile terrorist attack that attacked Jews, because they are Jews. Antisemitism is a hatred that is rising, once again. Britain must defeat it, once again."

“To every Jewish person in this country: I promise that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security you deserve," he added.
