German authorities have arrested a Lebanese man on suspicion of having links with Hamas and planning attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe, reported BBC citing federal prosecutors.

The suspect, identified as “Mohammad S", was arrested at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport on Friday evening after arriving on a flight from Beirut. Prosecutors said he is accused of supporting a planned series of attacks and is believed to be a member of the militant group, reported BBC.

According to investigators cited by the outlet, Mohammad S helped secure around 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025.

Authorities allege the ammunition was meant for use in attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions across Europe. He is expected to appear before a federal judge, who will decide whether he should be held in pretrial detention.

German officials said the suspect worked with another man, “Abed Al G", who was among three people arrested in October last year during an investigation into similar plots. Those arrests were made in Berlin during what authorities described as a planned weapons handover.

Two of the suspects were German citizens, while one was a Lebanese national. At the time, police also carried out searches in several cities, including Leipzig and Oberhausen, according to reports by Der Spiegel.

Hamas, which once ruled the Gaza Strip, has been badly weakened by Israeli military action. The group is listed as a terrorist organisation by the US, the UK, Israel and many other countries.

In October 2023, Hamas carried out a major attack on Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Israel responded with a large military operation in Gaza. Gaza’s health ministry, which is run by Hamas, says more than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed since then.

In a separate case, German police arrested another Lebanese man suspected of being linked to Hamas in November near the Czech border. According to officials probe into possible Hamas-related networks in Germany are still ongoing.
