CNN-News18 has accessed exclusive information revealing Pakistan’s continued support for terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), with top government sources pointing to a pattern of state complicity.

As per the details, a large number of Pakistan Army and Police personnel attended the funerals (Namaz-e-Janaza) of slain jihadis killed during India’s cross-border strike — Operation Sindoor — underscoring institutional involvement. Top government sources say the Pakistan Prime Minister’s statement and directions to the Army further indicate the state’s support for these jihadi groups.

Sharif’s response to the strikes — calling them an “act of war" and threatening retaliation — has drawn further scrutiny. This comes alongside a separate admission by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who recently acknowledged that the country had long supported and funded terrorist groups, describing it as “dirty work" done for foreign powers.

Markaz Subhan Allah, Bahawalpur

Markaz Subhan Allah — the operational headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Bahawalpur, Punjab — was among the key terror facilities targeted by India during Operation Sindoor. The camp had long been associated with major terror operations, including the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019. Attackers involved in Pulwama were trained at this site. Located approximately 90 kilometres from the Indian border, the Markaz lay close to both the Punjab and Rajasthan sectors.

According to top intelligence sources, the facility housed JeM Chief Maulana Masood Azhar, de-facto Chief Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Maulana Ammar, and other family members of Masood Azhar. Masood Azhar had delivered multiple anti-India speeches from this compound, calling on youth to join jihad.

The Markaz was situated just 3 kilometres from the 31 Corps cantonment. Satellite imagery confirmed its proximity to critical military infrastructure. In recent years, the site underwent expansion — including the addition of swimming pools and gyms — allegedly funded by Pakistan’s provincial government and Gulf-based donors. Despite international bans, the Bahawalpur hub remained active until India’s targeted action.

Markaz Taiba, Muridke

Markaz Taiba, located in Nangal Sahdan, Muridke in Pakistan’s Punjab province, was also targeted during Operation Sindoor. Established in 2000, it was considered Lashkar-e-Taiba’s most important training centre. In addition to training terrorists, the facility served as a hub for radicalisation, where students were indoctrinated and motivated to join jihadist movements. Its location — just 25–30 kilometres from the Attari-Wagah border — offered strategic proximity for artillery or short-range missile deployment.

Sources say the Markaz enrolled around 1,000 students in various courses annually and was known for producing cadres for LeT. Osama Bin Laden had reportedly financed Rs 10 million for the construction of a mosque and guest house within the Markaz complex.

The facility had direct links to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. All the attackers, including Ajmal Kasab, received Daura-e-Ribbaf (intelligence training) at this camp. David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the key conspirators of the attack, also visited the Muridke site on instructions from Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.

Intelligence inputs had indicated that ISI and Army trainers were present at the site, providing weapons training.

The persistent operations of these groups raise questions about the extent of their independence, especially in light of longstanding allegations of ISI support. Pakistan officially denies backing these organisations, but their survival and growth point to a different reality — one that continues to damage its credibility both regionally and globally.
