Israel is said to have asked the US to pressure Egypt over its military buildup in the Sinai Peninsula which borders Gaza strip. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu raised the matter during US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recent visit to the Jewish nation.Israel alleged that Cairo was accumulating forces in the region along its border in violation of the peace treaty between the two countries. Two Israeli officials told Axios that the Egyptians have been establishing military infrastructure in areas where only light weapons are allowed under the treaty. Some officials claimed the Egyptians extended runways at air bases in Sinai so that they could be used by fighter jets, Axios reports.Egyptian forces have also built underground facilities which Israeli intelligence believes could be used for storing missiles, as per the report.
