Actor Vijay on Thursday, in a strong pitch ahead of the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, asked voters to choose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which is a pure force, instead of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which he termed evil.

Setting the tone for the rest of his campaign for next year’s Assembly election, the actor-turned-politician, during a rally in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district — his first in the state since 41 people died in a stampede in Karur on September 27 — ripped into DMK, calling it “evil" and his TVK “pure".

This was Vijay’s second large-scale public event since the stampede; the first was in Puducherry last week, when he attacked DMK.

Referring to late Chief Ministers MGR and Jaylalithaa, Vijay escalated his attack on DMK and said they often described DMK as a “theeya sakthi" (evil force).

“The contest is now between the thooya sakthi TVK and theeya sakthi DMK," Vijay said in an apparent reference to the 2026 Assembly polls.

He further alleged that a smear campaign was launched against him by vested interests.

Late CMs CN Annadurai and MGR were inspiration for everyone and not individual property. None can complain against us for invoking them, he asserted.

He slammed the DMK dispensation on issues including law and order and agriculture.

Like former AIADMK senior K A Sengottaiyan, a local strongman who joined the TVK recently, more leaders would come to the party fold and they would be given their due recognition, Vijay said.
