Tamil Nadu Polls: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with MK Stalin
The DMK and Congress on Wednesday finalised their alliance for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with Congress set to contest 28 seats and allotted one Rajya Sabha seat, party sources said.
Top leaders, including AICC in-charge for Tamil Nadu Girish Chodankar and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai, held talks with DMK chief MK Stalin and other leaders at the Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, Selvaperunthagai, expressed satisfaction and happiness over the seat-sharing deal.
This development comes amid intense speculation over seat-sharing. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)–Indian Congress (INC) pact forms part of a grand alliance of 21 parties led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, aiming to present a united front against the opposition BJP-AIADMK combine under the Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming polls.
Just a day earlier, Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK had allotted one Rajya Sabha seat to its ally, DMDK.
The Assembly seats for DMDK will be announced later following further discussions, DMDK leader LK Sudhish had told reporters after signing the electoral pact with the DMK.
The 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly is expected to go to the polls in the first half of 2026.
