Supreme Court to hear plea against Bihar voter roll revision

The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea on Thursday regarding the ongoing voter list revision in Bihar. Petitioners, including political parties like RJD, Congress, and TMC, along with civil groups, have moved the top court expressing concerns that lakhs of voters may be deleted due to the revision process. They argue that the timeline for verification is unreasonably short, ending on the 25th of this month, despite elections being scheduled for November. The petitioners claim the process lacks due process and may disenfranchise many, particularly from poor, marginalised, and migrant communities. They have requested a stay on the ongoing election roll revision exercise, stating that the documentation requirements may prevent many genuine voters from verifying their names. The Election Commission and the Centre have been given advance notice of the hearing, though no formal notice has been issued to the poll body.
