Mumbai Police has registered a case against NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Jitendra Awhad for allegedly obstructing police work following Thursday’s clash between BJP and NCP workers at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan.
According to Mumbai Police, Awhad and his supporters sat in front of a police vehicle in the evening, blocking its movement after tensions flared between the two political groups inside the legislative complex earlier in the day. “Considering the seriousness of the matter, a case has been registered against Jitendra Awhad," the police said in an official statement.
The obstruction came hours after a violent scuffle broke out between supporters of Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar. The clash reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between the two leaders, after Awhad allegedly called Padalkar a “Mangalsutra chor" the previous day. Padalkar confronted Awhad at the legislature, leading to a brawl between their respective supporters in the lobby area.
A video of the incident has since gone viral, showing workers punching, kicking, and shouting abuse at each other. Two individuals, one reportedly from the BJP and another from the NCP — were arrested late Thursday night in connection with the assault. The Assembly Speaker has sought a detailed report, while political temperatures continue to rise over the incident.
