The Kremlin said that peace talks with Ukraine were on hold, acknowledging that efforts by US President Donald Trump to broker an end to the three-and-a-half-year war have so far failed to gain traction.

Donald Trump launched an intense diplomatic push, including hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska earlier this month, but Moscow pressed ahead with its offensive and stepped-up aerial strikes in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, as per AFP, “Our negotiators have the opportunity to communicate through channels. But for now, it is probably more accurate to talk about a pause. You can’t wear rose-tinted glasses and expect that the negotiation process will yield immediate results."
