Rekha Gupta criticized Aam Aadmi Party for mocking her verbal slips, alleging intolerance towards a woman Chief Minister.

Rekha Gupta was replying to the discussion on the lieutenant governor’s address in the Delhi Assembly.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday slammed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders for repeatedly mocking her through memes and personal attacks over inadvertent verbal slips saying that she felt pained by such actions and claimed that the opposition party cannot tolerate a woman running the government and working around the clock.
While replying to the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address in the Delhi Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the ridicule went beyond political opposition.
While referring to criticism and mockery she faced for misspelling “AQI" (air quality index), she said, “Sometimes they would say something to hurt (my) dignity, make cheap comments, level baseless allegations, and go after my words…" she said as quoted by news agency PTI.
The Chief Minister clarified that she had not intentionally made any remarks that warranted ridicule, but was being targeted for minor mistakes.
She added, “In my speech, I said Congress instead of British, and they started making reels out of it. Anyone can make such verbal slips. While I committed a mistake, the AAP deliberately misled the people of Delhi on so many occasions."
Gupta alleged that these attacks were baseless and stemmed from resentment toward a woman working round the clock.
“I am pained by the way AAP leaders behaved. They do not like a woman running the government, or a woman chief minister working 24×7, doing so many things… They are unable to tolerate it," she added.
Hitting back at the opposition, Gupta said there was a difference between unintentional errors and deliberate actions. Referring to AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s political journey, Gupta claimed that the transition from a hunger strike at the Ramlila Maidan to the “Sheesh Mahal" was undertaken deliberately and with full awareness.
“He consciously swore on his children that he would neither seek power nor accept government posts, official bungalows or vehicles, and would never ally with the Congress. Those misleading statements were made consciously, and not by any mistake as I did," the Chief Minister said.
She alleged that the idea to claim a British-era “Phansi Ghar" on the Assembly premises was also deliberate and made under a conspiracy, and not by any mistake.
Gupta also accused the AAP Leader of Opposition in the Assembly (Atishi) of “deliberately" insulting Sikh Gurus, saying such acts will not be tolerated.
During her speech in the Delhi Assembly, Gupta also drew a comparison between her government’s 11 months in office and what she called as “11 years of mismanagement and corruption" under the AAP government.
The Delhi CM highlighted the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Vandana Yojana, digitisation in hospitals, as well as initiatives like Jan Aushadhi Kendras, palna centres for working women, and more.
Gupta alleged that during the term of the past AAP government, there had been massive cost overruns in hospital projects, irregular electricity connections, and irrational water bills.
