Boris Johnson supports Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on countries importing Russian oil, calling it "brave, principled and logical."

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson voiced strong support for US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on countries importing Russian oil, calling the move “brave, principled and logical." In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Boris Johnson praised Donald Trump’s latest executive action and challenged Britain and other European nations to follow suit.
“Donald Trump has done the brave, principled and logical thing- finally punishing the countries that have been funding Putin’s vicious war machine by buying Russian oil and gas," Boris Johnson wrote.
He added, “When will Britain and the rest of Europe have the guts to do the same?"
The remarks come in the wake of Donald Trump’s newly announced 25% additional tariffs on Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s continued purchase of Russian crude as justification. Boris Johnson’s comments add pressure on the UK and European governments, some of whom still allow pipeline imports or purchase refined products of Russian origin through third countries.
In March this year, Boris Johnson had taken a swipe at Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the latter’s refusal to accept a ceasefire proposal backed by Donald Trump. Posting on X then, Boris Johnson claimed Vladimir Putin’s rejection showed the Russian leader was “laughing at us."
“What a surprise- Putin rejects an unconditional ceasefire. He wants to keep bombing and killing innocent Ukrainians. He wants Ukraine disarmed. He wants Ukraine neutralised. He wants to make Ukraine a vassal state of Russia. He isn’t negotiating. He’s laughing at us," Boris Johnson wrote.
