As aides of Donald Trump scrambled to manage a fragile ceasefire with Iran, the US President filled his social media feed with conspiracy theories at breakneck speed. Over four frantic hours, he unleashed more than 50 posts on the Iran war with conspiracy theories to attacks on Democrats and bizarre boasts about his presidency.
Much of the 79-year-old's posting frenzy took aim at Iran.
In one AI-generated image shared to his account, a US drone was shown blowing up Iranian fast boats.
Another post showed a US warship destroying Iranian drones. He also shared posts praising the recent US military campaign against Iran. One chart titled "Length of Wars" compared major US wars based on how long they lasted. Afghanistan was shown as the longest war at 543 weeks, followed by Iraq, Vietnam and World War II.
At the bottom of the chart was a bright red box labelled "Iran Excursion". It said the conflict lasted just six weeks. The post appeared aimed at showing Trump’s Iran strategy as fast and decisive compared with America’s long and costly wars.
Another post titled "159 IRANIAN SHIPS" contrasted the Obama and Biden administrations with Trump. The side labelled "Obama/Biden" showed a large fleet of Iranian naval vessels sailing freely. The side labelled "Trump" showed the same ships destroyed and lying at the bottom of the ocean.
TRUMP TURNS FIRE ON OBAMA, BIDEN
But Iran wasn't the only part of the online barrage.
The Republican leader also attacked former President Barack Obama, including posts describing Obama as a "traitor" and a "DEMONIC FORCE". Several posts demanded investigations and arrests targeting Trump critics and political opponents.
Some of the reposts specifically tagged Todd Blanche, Trump’s former criminal defence lawyer who now serves as acting US attorney general. The US President also revived false claims about the 2020 election. One repost alleged voting machine companies switched votes cast for Trump to Joe Biden.
"The CIA knew what these machines were capable of and brushed it under the rug to control election outcomes," one post claimed without evidence.
Trump’s latest election claims resurfaced even though courts, investigations and multiple recounts over the past several years have found no evidence of fraud serious enough to change the outcome of the 2020 elections.
QUESTIONS SWIRL AROUND TRUMP’S FITNESS
The posting spree unfolded against a backdrop of growing concern over Trump’s fitness for office. A recent Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll found that 59 per cent of respondents believed Trump lacked the mental capacity to lead the country, while 55 per cent questioned his physical fitness.
Trump, however, has repeatedly dismissed those concerns.
"I feel the same as I did 50 years ago. It's crazy," he said on Monday.
The White House announced this week that Trump will undergo medical and dental examinations on May 26 at Walter Reed Military Medical Center.
