Ranjana Nachiyaar of TVK attacked Vijay, asking if he should first be a responsible father to his own children before promising to act as a ‘godfather’ to others’ children

Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, has accused him of having an extramarital relationship with another actress and has filed for divorce. The development has triggered fresh controversy around the Tamil actor-turned-politician.

On Sunday, during the TVK Women’s Day event held near Mahabalipuram in Chennai, Vijay briefly referred to the ongoing divorce issue. Addressing the gathering, he said, “It’s not worth worrying about.” Following this remark, some individuals who had previously supported him have begun criticising his statement.

In response, TVK party leader Ranjana Nachiyaar strongly criticised Vijay’s comment and raised several questions regarding his remarks. In a statement she released, Nachiyar said that during the Women’s Day celebration, Vijay indirectly referred to the dispute with his wife without mentioning it openly. She quoted his words: “You said, ‘Don’t worry about that. I’ll handle it. It’s not even worth it.’ That one sentence is raising many questions today. What is not worth it, leader? Your wife? Or your married life?”

Nachiyaar further pointed out what she described as contradictions between Vijay’s personal life and his political promises. “At a time when there are allegations that you do not even allow your wife to enter your house, isn’t it contradictory to stand on stage and promise six free gas cylinders for every household?” she asked.

She also questioned the sincerity of Vijay’s statements on women’s empowerment. “On one hand, you speak about empowering women. But if your own words fail to show respect towards women, what is the meaning of such politics? What is your real face?” she said.

Nachiyaar also expressed concern about the influence of public figures on younger generations. “Don’t you know the saying that followers walk the same path as their leader? When you appear publicly with an actress, what message does that send to today’s youth? Won’t they begin to think that this is how life can be after marriage?” she asked.

Referring to Vijay’s earlier statements about feminism and historical figures, she added that he often cites Velu Nachiyar as his role model. “But shouldn’t that same respect be reflected in your own life? Feminism is not just something to shout about on stage. It is reflected in the way you live your life,” she said.

Nachiyaar also commented on Vijay’s remark that he would act as a ‘godfather’ to every child born. “You said you would give gifts as a godfather to every child born. That may be a noble thought. But before becoming a godfather to someone else’s child, isn’t it more important to be a father to your own children?” she asked. “You don’t need to give gifts, leader. It would be better if you do not mislead the youth,” she added.

Concluding her statement, Ranjana Nachiyaar said that speaking out was necessary for the sake of the party and the people. “If I fail to point this out while being part of the TVK, it would be a great betrayal to our party, the people, and the young people who place their trust in you,” she said.
