Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir hosted his daughter’s wedding on December 26 at the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, with the groom identified as his brother’s son, according to local media. The wedding, attended by senior political and military figures, was kept low-key and away from public view for security considerations. No official photographs were released.
Pakistani journalist Zahid Gishkori shared a now-deleted video on social media platform X confirming that General Munir had arranged his daughter’s nikah with his brother’s son.
"Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir's daughter Mahnoor married his brother's son, Capt. Abdul Rehman Qasim," he said.
According to reports, around 400 guests attended the wedding, including Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and several serving and retired senior military officers, including former army chiefs.
WHO IS ABDUL REHMAN QASIM?
Abdul Rehman, the groom and General Munir’s nephew, previously served in the Pakistan Army as a captain. After leaving military service, he joined the civil administration through a quota reserved for army officers and currently serves as an assistant commissioner, according to local media reports.

UAE PRESIDENT MBZ IN PAKISTAN
The wedding coincided with the arrival of the United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Pakistan on December 26. While speculation emerged linking the visit to the wedding, several Pakistani outlets claimed that the UAE president did not attend the ceremony.
When Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed arrived in Pakistan, he was seen greeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other officials. Reports noted that he had a lengthy conversation with General Munir upon arrival, though local media later said the discussion was not linked to the wedding.
The UAE president’s visit had initially raised expectations of major defence or economic agreements between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. However, it later emerged that the trip was largely private in nature, with reports saying Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed travelled to Rahim Yar Khan for hunting the Houbara Bustard after meeting Pakistani leaders at the Nur Khan Air Base.
