Alaska Summit LIVE Updates: Trump, Putin Hold Marathon Talks On Ukraine, Discussions Enter Third Hour

Ukrainian lawmaker Halyna Yanchenko hailed Donald Trump for his remark that any decision on territorial concessions should include Ukraine.

She made a reference to Trump’s answer to a reporter who asked him if territorial swaps would be discussed with Putin during a meeting.

“They’ll be discussed, but I’ve got to let Ukraine make that decision,” Trump replied to the reporter.

In an interview with CNN, Yanchenko lauded Trump for his stance.

“This is very important that he mentioned this. When we are talking about trading the lands, we actually are talking about trading people,” she said.

Russian Defence Minister Andrew Belousov will join the talks in Anchorage “in an expanded format”, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, BBC reported.

As of now, the delegations are negotiating in a three-on-three format — away from the one-on-one format earlier announced by Trump.

President Putin is currently joined by his Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, while President Trump has Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff by his side.

Zelenskyy has reiterated that Ukraine must be included in talks to ensure “effective decisions” are made on ending the conflict.

His remarks came as Trump and Putin are holding a meeting in Alaska, where the Ukrainian side has not been invited.

“Security guarantees are needed. Lasting peace is needed,” he wrote on X. “Everyone knows the key objectives. I want to thank everyone who is helping to achieve real results.”

The White House shared a picture of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at a meeting venue in Alaska and captioned the post “Pursuing Peace”.

The talks between Trump and Putin will not be limited to Ukraine and economic matters, according to top Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev.

The two leaders will also discuss topics of global strategic security, a source told Russian state news outlet TASS.

Moments after Trump’s talks with Putin started in Alaska, the US President began fundraising off of the meeting, NBC News reported.

“I’m meeting with Putin in Alaska! It’s a little chilly,” the fundraising email said. “THIS MEETING IS VERY HIGH STAKES for the world.”
The email urged supporters to “stand with Trump” and “give $10.”

Donald Trump will be joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during his one-on-one meeting with Vladimir Putin at the military airbase in Alaska, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

At the bilateral lunch, Rubio, Witkoff, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and chief of staff Susie Wiles will also be present from the US side.

Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible to bring the war to an end, and we count on a strong position from America. Everything will depend on this – the Russians factor in American strength. Make no mistake – strength,” he posted on X.

US Vice President JD Vance hailed Donald Trump’s leadership ahead of the historic summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

“Grateful for President Trump’s leadership today as he travels to Alaska to meet with President Putin of Russia. Praying for peace in the days ahead,” he posted on X.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will be “counting on America”.

Trump has suggested holding a trilateral meeting with Zelenskyy if today’s summit goes well.

Volodymyr Zelensky says there is no sign that Russia is preparing for peace, as Putin and Trump head to Alaska to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.

“On the day of the negotiations, they also kill people. That says a lot,” the Ukrainian president says in a post on Telegram. “The war continues,” he adds. “It continues precisely because there is no order, nor any indication that Moscow is preparing to end this war.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive on time for his summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

“The president always makes it (on time),” Peskov said on board a plane in Russia’s far eastern Magadan region.

“We are counting on America”, Volodymyr Zelensky said ahead of the Alaska summit.

In a statement on X, Zelensky echoes Trump’s comments, saying that today’s meeting is “indeed, high stakes”, adding that the summit “should open up a real path toward a just peace” and a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US and Russia.

Donald Trump said he wasn’t travelling to Alaska to broker a deal on behalf of Ukraine, but said instead his goal was getting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the table.

“I’m not here to negotiate for Ukraine,” he said. “I’m not doing this for my health. OK, I don’t need it,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One as he was heading to Anchorage for the summit. “I’d like to focus on our country, but I’m doing this to save a lot of lives.”

He said the consequences for Russia if Putin doesn’t agree to end the war would be punishing. “Yes, it will be very severe,” he said of potential economic measures against Moscow.
