'Alaska Negotiations': Putin Reveals His Conversation With PM Modi During Car Ride In China

Vladimir Putin said he discussed the Alaska Summit negotiations with PM Modi while travelling together in his AURUS limousine during the Tianjin SCO Summit in China.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed he discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Alaska negotiations between him and US President Donald Trump, during his shared car ride with PM Modi from the Tianjin SCO Summit to the venue for the bilateral talks in China.

Addressing reporters during his four-day visit to China, Putin was asked by a reporter about the topics he discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the car.

“I told him about the negotiations in Alaska," Putin said.

THE ALASKA SUMMIT NEGOTIATIONS

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held the much-anticipated truce talks meeting in Alaska in mid-August to discuss bringing an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

Russia’s top economic envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, said the US received Russia “very well" in Alaska and that the two countries would continue building relations despite “resistance."

“The US-Russia summit in Alaska has definitely been productive," Dmitriev said according to CNN, adding that there were “lots of issues that we discussed and many we agreed on".

“Some of them are to be agreed and definitely it’s very important that President Trump outlines a significant economic potential of cooperation between the US and Russia," said Dmitriev.

“We will continue building US-Russia relations going forward despite lots of resistance to this, but we will continue strengthening US-Russia ties," he added, as per CNN.

PM MODI AND PUTIN’s SHARED CAR RIDE

PM Modi and the Russian President travelled to the bilateral talks venue in Putin’s AURUS limousine. During their travel, both leaders conversed on numerous issues before they held talks during their bilateral meeting.

It was also known that they spent nearly 45 minutes in the car even after reaching the bilateral meeting venue.

News agency PTI quoted commentators in Moscow as saying that perhaps this was the most important confidential conversation between PM Modi and Putin during which they probably discussed issues “not for the ears of others".

Soon after their shared car ride, Russian national radio station VestiFM had stated, “The two leaders continued their one-to-one dialogue on the way to the hotel where they were to be joined by members of their teams."

“However, on reaching the hotel, they did not deboard the Russian President’s limousine and continued their conversation for 50 minutes," it added.

During their bilateral talks, Modi conveyed to Putin that it is humanity’s call to end the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible.

The call of humanity is to end the conflict as soon as possible and find ways to bring permanent peace to the region, he said.

PM Modi also said that India is waiting to receive the Russian leader.

The development came as India and Russia look to strengthen their bilateral relationship amid US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which include a 25 per cent penalty for purchasing discounted crude oil from Moscow.

PM Modi, in his address at the SCO, stressed the need to boost connectivity between the members to boost trade, while Putin said that dialogue within the SCO helps lay the foundation for a new Eurasian security system, replacing outdated Eurocentric and Euro-Atlantic models.

Putin is set to travel to India in December for summit talks with PM Modi.
