Akshaye Khanna unveils fierce Shukracharya Avatar in Mahakali first glimpse; film to release on January 8, 2027

The makers of Mahakali have finally unveiled the first glimpse of the much-awaited Indian historical spectacle. Backed by RKD Studios and Prasanth Varma, the film has already generated curiosity following its announcement. Titled #Shukracharya’sWarCry, the glimpse also reveals the film’s theatrical release date, with Mahakali set to arrive on the big screen on January 8, 2027.

The glimpse introduces a conflict between Dharma and Adharma, suggesting a battle that goes beyond a conventional fight between good and evil. At the centre of the conflict is Shukracharya, the powerful guru of the Asuras. The visuals hint at a larger war that could have consequences for an entire world. With an ominous atmosphere and images of an approaching conflict, the glimpse sets the tone for what appears to be a major battle in Mahakali.

Akshaye Khanna emerges as one of the key highlights of the glimpse, appearing in an intense and dramatically transformed avatar as Shukracharya. His stern expression and commanding presence offer audiences their first extended look at his portrayal of the Asura guru. After his first look created curiosity, the glimpse further raises questions about the character’s role in the larger conflict between Dharma and Adharma.

The glimpse also provides a wider look at the visual world of Mahakali. Elaborate sets, detailed world-building and visual effects contribute to the film’s larger-than-life presentation. Sriya Reddy also makes an appearance, adding another element of intrigue to the story.

Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe began with Hanu-Man, which brought Indian Itihasa-inspired storytelling to the big screen with a visual-driven approach. Mahakali appears to take that universe forward on a larger scale. The 2-minute-and-55-second glimpse offers an early look at the filmmaker’s broader vision, while hinting at a world that is expanding in terms of story and scale.

Presented by RK Duggal and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner, Mahakali is directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and is the next instalment in the Cinematic Universe. The film also features Bhoomi Shetty, Rohit Saraf and several other actors alongside Akshaye Khanna and Sriya Reddy.
