US President Donald Trump has vowed to avenge the four US deaths, but warned the American public to "expect casualties" as 'Operation Epic Fury' continues

President Donald Trump vowed to avenge the first US deaths in the war he said he launched to bring about a regime change in Iran.
On Monday, the United States hit hundreds of targets across Iran while Israel expanded its bombing to Lebanon. Iranian forces fired missiles and drones across the Middle East, killing people in Israel and the United Arab Emirates, in retaliation for the conflict that began on February 28 with the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
‘Operation Epic Fury’, jointly launched by the US and Israel, claims to have caused severe damage to Iranian military units, including the elite force called the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). But, this has come at the cost of losses on the American and Israeli side as well.

President Trump, however, has insisted that the mission is currently “ahead of schedule" following the high-profile killing of Ayatollah Khamenei and dozens of other senior government figures. As on today, March 2, the Iran conflict has resulted in four confirmed US combat deaths and the loss of three advanced fighter jets in a “friendly fire" incident over Kuwait.
With the conflict expanded beyond Iranian borders, the country’s armed forces have launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting American military bases, naval vessels in the Indian Ocean, and critical regional energy infrastructure across the Gulf. Trump has signalled that the military campaign could continue for several more weeks, but his statement has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents in Washington, who called his decision to invade a “reckless" move that risks the lives of more US service members.
HOW MANY US DEATHS?
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has officially confirmed that four American service members have been killed in action since the beginning of the offensive.
Initially, the Pentagon announced that three unidentified service members were killed and five others seriously wounded during the opening military strikes against Iran. By Monday morning, the death toll rose to four as a service member, who had been critically injured during Iran’s initial retaliatory attacks, succumbed to their wounds.
Trump, speaking from his Florida resort, described the fallen soldiers as “great people" and said such losses were an unavoidable part of a war he believes will ultimately be a “great deal" for the world. But, the administration’s initial handling of the casualty news was met with scrutiny.
Five hours after the first deaths were announced by CENTCOM, neither the White House nor the President had issued a public statement, with Trump instead choosing to post on Truth Social about the destruction of the Iranian navy. He has, since, vowed to avenge these deaths, even as he warned the American public to “expect casualties" as the operation continues.
3 US JETS GO DOWN IN ‘FRIENDLY FIRE’
The US military suffered a significant blow due to a catastrophic breakdown in coordination with regional allies.
On Monday morning, three US F-15E Strike Eagles were shot down over Kuwait. Later, US officials said Kuwaiti air defence systems had “mistakenly" engaged the American warplanes during a period of active combat.
The CENTCOM clarified that the aircraft were engaged in error while responding to a “high-alert environment" involving incoming Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones. The incident, however, did not result in loss of life as all six crew members successfully ejected.
They have since been recovered and are reported to be in stable condition. Kuwaiti authorities have acknowledged the error, and CENTCOM expressed gratitude for their ongoing support in the broader operation. The incident is currently under investigation to determine how such a significant failure in “blue-on-blue" identification occurred during a critical phase of the war.
IRAN TARGETS US BASE IN KUWAIT
The Iranian military targeted the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, which hosts a significant number of US troops.
Iran’s army claimed to have fired 15 cruise missiles at the base and at “enemy vessels" in the northern Indian Ocean. While Iran also claimed to have successfully struck the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with four ballistic missiles, CENTCOM denied these reports saying the missiles “didn’t even come close" and that the vessel remains operational.
As the conflict enters its second week, the Trump administration is preparing to justify the ongoing state of war to a divided Congress. Trump has estimated that the military operation will take approximately “four weeks or less" to achieve its goals of destroying Iran’s military capacity.
But, the political fallout in Washington is intensifying. Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, has called for immediate congressional action to “restrain this president", arguing that no more “American heroes" should die for what he termed a “reckless decision".
To counter this, a team of top US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, are scheduled to brief the full membership of both chambers of Congress on Tuesday, March 3. They are expected to present the case for the necessity of the strikes and provide details on the killing of the 48 Iranian leaders and the destruction of the Iranian naval headquarters.
