Canadian police are investigating the death of Nooran Rezayi, a 15-year-old shot by officers in Longueuil. Quebec’s watchdog, led by Brigitte Bishop, promises an impartial probe.

The Canadian police has launched an investigation into the death of a 15-year-old boy who was shot dead by officers.
The Guardian quoted Brigitte Bishop, director of Quebec’s office of independent investigations, police watchdog, as saying at a press conference that her unit would conduct an “impartial" investigation into the death of Nooran Rezayi.
This comes after the police confirmed that the only weapon recovered from the scene of the shooting belonged to one of the officers.
On Sunday, police received a call reporting about a group of masked teenagers who were allegedly armed, in Longueuil, a city less than 10 miles (16km) east of Montreal.
The police watchdog said that the officers reached the spot just before 3 pm and “made contact with the members of the group".
The Guardian quoted the witnesses as saying that the police shouted “stop" twice before shooting towards the teens. One of the teens, Rezayi, was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was struck by at least one bullet.
Following the incident, the deceased’s family, who immigrated to Quebec from Afghanistan said police didn’t come to the family home until nearly six hours after the shooting. “We sat here, not knowing. And then they came and told us he was gone," he said.
The Guardian quoted Brigitte Bishop as saying that the investigators had retrieved a baseball bat and ski masks at the scene but declined to provide further specifics about the case, citing the ongoing investigation. She said that five people have been assigned to investigate the case.
“A lot of people are trying to understand what’s going on. I totally understand that, but they’re doing certain private investigations and they’re meeting with people," she said.
“You have to trust us. We’re the ones who are doing the investigation. We’re an independent office. Our mission is to shed light on what happened and that’s what we’re going to do," she added.
